Dark Project: Progress

Level 3 is officially complete. The players torch functionality was added and i am about to start on the next level. Sime of the lighting effects, mixed with the players torch is starting to make this game something a little scarier than origionally planned. :-)

If i can get the sound just right, then you might imagine this game almost like a cross between Dead Space and Alien Vs Predator. Watch this space for more exciting updates!

Dark Project: Level Design

Hi!

I realize there have been few post lately! Ive been working hard on my first Unity3D project and things have been going great!
Got a lot of the core game mechanics down and they are working great!
Ive recently started designing the levels and writing the story and game flow. To me this is the actual exciting part of developing a game. Things come together rather quickly, but i find this can also be rather intimidating!
There are so many things to consider when designing the levels for a game.

- What genre?
- Is the scale correct?
- Where would the player run to first?
- What is the player thinking?
- Will this look good to the player?(eyecandy).

Before a person even considers buying a game, they look at the screenshots. And if it isnt going to look good and interesting then you can be sure that they will put that baby right back down!
I also read an article recently on Gamasutra about level designers and how they design. The point that stood out for me is that once the basic layout of the level is done and making sure you scales are correct, you should take your time adding the details! Do not rush this and the final product should look great!

Something to keep in mind when designing your game.

Regards,
Rob

Hi!

I recently found a really useful website containing free to download 3D models of hundreds of different Items, game characters and environments. This is really useful especially if you need a model to test with.
Check it out. I also included the link under "Links" on this website for future reference.

Happy developing!
